Healing in the Light

Bible Verse:
John8:12 NKJ " I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

Text:
My story is simple. I grew up believing in God but never really knew Him. I was in darkness. God wanted to bring me and my family into His healing light. I had two children born with intestinal diseases, my oldest daughter being in the worst condition. For the first seven years of her life she was dependent on machines to live. I came to a breaking point, where my daughter was dying and no one could help.I had prayed countless prayers that all seemed unanswered! But God was listening, He led me down a road that brought me to my knees! I found Him !!

The Jesus I had never really known, His love consumed me and His healing hands touched my daughter. I began to read the Bible and found hope for the first time in my life. Hope produced faith and I became sure in Gods mercy to heal my heart and my daughters body. Today both of my children are completely healed by the love Jesus gave at the cross. I'm thankful to be in His light.

Ending Prayer:
I pray that you will trust God through your darkest moments, and be sure of His promises, He loves you with an everlasting love!

VICTORY OVER THE WORLD THROUGH FAITH

SERMON BY CHARLES FINNEY

"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."--[1] John 5:4.

The discussion of this text naturally leads us to make four inquiries.

I. WHAT IS IT TO OVERCOME THE WORLD?

II. WHO ARE THEY THAT OVERCOME?

III. WHY DO THEY OVERCOME THE WORLD?

IV. HOW DO THEY DO IT?

DEPENDENCE ON CHRIST

SERMON BY CHARLES FINNEY

"Without me ye can do nothing." -- John 15:5.

In discussing this subject I shall show--

I. THE MEANING OF THE TEXT.

II. WHAT IS IMPLIED IN IT.

III. THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING AND BELIEVING IT.

IV. THE PRONENESS OF THE HUMAN HEART TO OVERLOOK AND PRACTICALLY DENY IT.

FAITH

SERMON BY CHARLES FINNEY

Text.--John 6:28, 29: "Then said they unto him, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent."

The following is the train of thought I shall pursue:

I. NOTICE SEVERAL ERRONEOUS ANSWERS, COMMONLY GIVEN TO THE QUESTION PROPOSED IN THE TEXT, VIZ: WHAT SHALL WE DO THAT WE MAY WORK THE WORKS OF GOD?

II. SHOW THAT CHRIST GAVE THE ONLY PROPER ANSWER, UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES IN WHICH THE QUESTION WAS ASKED.

III. SHOW THAT, UNDER OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES, ANOTHER ANSWER MIGHT, WITH PROPRIETY, BE GIVEN

FAITH THE WORK OF GOD

SERMON BY CHARLES FINNEY

"Then they said unto Him, What shall we do that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent." --John 6:28, 29

In the preceding context Jesus rebukes the people for following Him, not because they saw his miracles, and in his miracles the proof that He came from God, but for the sake of the loaves and fishes; and then takes occasion to exhort them to "labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that which endureth to everlasting life." Upon this they start up with the question--What is this "labor" of which you speak? What shall we do to secure this everlasting life?

To this Jesus answers in our text--"This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent."

In discussing the subject here presented, I shall

I. NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LETTER AND THE SPIRIT OF A COMMANDMENT.

II. SHOW WHAT IS NOT THE WORK WHICH GOD REALLY REQUIRES.

III. WHAT IT IS.

IV. WHAT IS IMPLIED IN IT.

V. NOTICE SOME DELUSIONS INTO WHICH PERSONS FALL ON THIS SUBJECT.

ON FOLLOWING CHRIST

SERMON BY CHARLES FINNEY

"Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou Me." John 21:22

These words Christ spake to Peter. He had previously given Peter to understand that in his advanced life his liberty would be restrained, and that he would have the honor of glorifying God by a martyr's death. A question arose in Peter's mind--more curious than wise--how it would fare with his fellow disciple, John. So he enquires--"Lord, what shall this man do?" Gently rebuking this idle inquisitiveness, Jesus replied--"If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou Me."

This reply involves a principle, and hence it has a wide practical application. It is really addressed to us.

Assuming it to be thus addressed to all at the present day, what does it teach? What does Jesus say to us?

The Only Way

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." John 14:6 (NASB)

I bought a prefabricated shed that needed to be assembled. No instructions were included so I called the company. They told me to put it together any way that I wanted, it did not make any difference. I got on a plane for Los Angeles and the pilot said that he was going to go whichever way the wind was blowing, it did not make any difference. I went to buy baby food for a six-month old and the store manager told me to just give her whatever I had laying around in the refrigerator, it did not make any difference. In all of these cases we would be incredulous. Of course it makes a difference. You just do not screw boards together and hope that a shed comes out. You do not just fly wherever you feel like and expect that you will wind up at the correct destination. And you just cannot feed a six-month old anything you want. Yet that is the way that many people approach religion. “All ways lead to God,” so they say. But the truth is that salvation can only come through Jesus Christ. All religions are not the same. Forgiveness of sins can only come from a Savior who died for those sins and then rose again. In life we will accomplish nothing if we are careless; we should be even more careful to follow God’s only instructions to eternal life.

Let me never become complacent or deceived and think that others can make it to Heaven apart from knowing Jesus Christ.
