Secret Strength

They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NKJ)

Gazing out my window very early this morning I saw the Morning Star shining brightly in the wind-swept sky. Within moments the Lord kindled the dawn before my eyes, as if He had created the day only for me. What a gift after a restless night with only a few hours of sleep. I felt exhausted and weak, wondering how I’d make it through the day ahead.

Searching the scriptures, the word strength emerged in almost every scripture to which I turned.

Psalm 27:1 (NKJ) joyfully exclaimed, “The Lord is the strength of my life!”

Psalm 62:7’s word picture reinforced, “The rock of my strength and my refuge is in God.”

Psalm 118:14 echoed, “The Lord is my strength and song. He has become my salvation.”

Turning to Isaiah 40:28-29 I read, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. . . He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.”

“Why?” I pondered.

The answer came just as the sun burst with all of its brilliance into my bedroom. “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).

Renew? That can only mean that it was already there! The renewal of strength comes from waiting!

That is the secret to which I long to surrender.

Teach me, Lord, to wait on You alone for my strength. Amen.
