Creator and The Cosmos
Creator and the Cosmos
The Creator and the Cosmos was written by Hugh Ross, PH.D. Dr. Ross was not raised as a Christian. When he was 8 years old he purchased a telescope and became fascinated with the heavens he saw. He worked hard at his first love, astronomy, and received a PH. D. In astronomy. In the process of finding out more about the universe he came to the conclusion that all of what he saw and learned about the universe promoted the fact that this universe that we live in was created. As he searched out the creator he came to the conclusion that he was lost and needed God's forgiveness. He has since become a committed Christian and a scientist.
In this book he shows that science and Christianity are not at odds. It is the philosophical beliefs of scientist that are at odds with Christianity not the facts of science. With his training he is as qualified to speak on this subject as any scientist. He describes the chance that the universe was just a happening of nature in the following analogy: Cover the entire North American continent in dimes all the way up to the moon (a height of abut 239,000 miles). Than place a thousand, trillion other piles of dimes the same size as the North American continent, side by side. Paint one dime red and have someone place the red dime somewhere in this thousand, trillion piles of dimes. Blind fold someone and have them choose one dimes out of all these piles. The chance that the universe came about without a creator is the same chance as one would have of drawing that red dime on his first try.
This book is rather technical in parts so don't give up until you have read it all. It is a fascinating journey.
