God's Love is Grander

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 (NIV)

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (NIV )

I stood in awe staring at the Grand Canyon the summer of 2007. We’d been to Los Angeles, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Our last stop was this huge gorge in the earth, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Hollywood and Vegas failed to inspire me with their facades of glitter and glamour, but looking as far as my eye could see at a red-rock canyon provided me with inspiration for describing God’s love for His children.

God’s love is as wide and deep and great as the Grand Canyon He made. His love flows like a Niagara Falls waterfall. His light shines like a Key West, Florida, sunrise. His love sparkles more brilliant than all the lights in Hollywood and Vegas, true and steady, instead of glittering and flickering false hope. Nothing is grander than our own Lord and His love for us, not even the Grand Canyon He personally created.

His love spreads throughout all eternity with no end in sight, further than any eye can see, deeper than we can imagine. Like an expansive canyon, mountain-valley, or ocean-front view, His love continuously unfolds and expands. All you have to do is invite Him in as your personal Lord and savior, trust Him, and He will be your guiding light, outshining the glitter of Hollywood and Vegas.

Dear God, in Jesus’ name I pray, let your love continuously unfold in beautiful splendor like the Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls, so others may come to know you personally and develop a loving relationship with their heavenly father. Amen.
