Hope

“And so, Lord, my only hope is in you.”  Psalms 39:7 (Living Bible)

For more years than I care to think about, I have struggled with the challenge of mental depression. I liken it to a big, black hole that goes round and round and round. I often find myself teetering on the edge of this immense, bottomless black hole. I get very scared at those times because I fear I will fall into that dark pit and be lost forever. Often I see no way to avoid it or hope of healing.

It is at the darkest of times that I remember that as a daughter of the King, I always have hope. I recall several years back that God gave me a unique way to relate to the word HOPE. It goes like this:
    H — His
    O — Operational
    P — Promises
    E — Energize

God taught me that His many promises are operational. In other words, THEY WORK!  His promises are the things in my life I can always count on. His Word is filled with His many promises. I need to recall His promises. Remembering them should energize me to keep on keeping on and hang on to the HOPE that I have in being selected as His daughter.

We can apply this to our entire Christian journey. I encourage you to grab on to the many promises God has in His word for us. Rest assured His operational promises energize.

Father, I pray for those of us who struggle with depression. May Your Spirit fill our minds and Your many promises fill our hearts with HOPE.

Remember to pray for those struggling with depression.
