Looking for the City

And the Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.”
And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life
without cost. Revelation 22:17 (NASB)

It rained for four days of my annual vacation in Lakeside, Ohio. When it quit, I took a walk down to the dock. Off in the distance was a stunning view of Kelly’s Island -- unbelievably clear, unlike anything I’d seen before. It was as though the island had moved closer. Because of changes in humidity, the view was much different than I had anticipated. I could see magnified details of all the cottages, nearby sailboats, and rugged coastline. It was a grandiose picture!

While mesmerized by the clear scenery, I was reminded of the holy city. “And I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Rev. 21:2 NASB)

Once again, God reminded me that He has prepared a place for us. Someday we will see this incredible city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. We can’t imagine the complete joy and perfected love we’ll experience when we see Jesus face-to-face. Our Christian loved ones who went on before us will be waiting and looking forward to our arrival. As we live our lives following the Lord, we have a glorious hope and future. The best is yet to come!

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for New Jerusalem. You will rule and reign forever and we are extremely grateful to be a part of Your kingdom. Amen.
