Peace: More than the Absence of Fear

Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)

The news wasn’t good. The lump was growing. It had to be removed. Like any other woman on the receiving end of such news, I immediately thought the worst: The C word. Tears sprang to my eyes, and I blinked hard to suppress them, but by the time I got to my car my tears were flowing freely accompanied by loud sobs from deep within. I struggled to stifle them. I had to return to work. I had to be strong; I could not fall apart. So I did what I should have done in the first place: I prayed, redirecting my focus toward God, rather than on my situation.

Immediately a calmness washed over me. I was acutely aware of the presence of the Holy One, surrounding me with His Peace. He gave me the strength to continue my workday without becoming an emotional wreck.

Four months passed before the surgery was performed. Never during that time did God let go of me. Every moment of every day, He assured me that whatever the outcome, I was in His hands.

Have you experienced God’s perfect peace in the midst of a crisis? Have you known the sweet comfort of His presence? His peace is more than the absence of fear. His peace is perfect and He willingly imparts His Peace to all who ask.

Loving Father, I know you walk with me through every situation. Remind me that in the midst of all of life’s challenges, You are my ever-present Peace. Amen.
