The Heavens Declare

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Psalm 19:1-3 (King James Version)

One morning, while driving home from taking the kids to school, I took a trip back to the past. With fond memories, I recalled my horseback rides up the mountain behind the ranch where I worked years ago, and my trips to Golden Ears Park in British Columbia on my days off. At these spots I could bathe in the beauty of God’s creation. I would pray, and read God’s Word, and reflect on the details of my life. Those were times of great refreshment and refocusing on the calling God gave me.

During that drive home from the school, I longed for those special times of spiritual retreat. Then I looked to the eastern sky and beheld the beautiful sunrise. Even here, in the city, I discovered the declaration of God’s glory. A warmth passed through me as I realized that God is everywhere, not just in the mountains. I could find that fellowship I longed for by simply calling upon Him.

No matter where we go, we experience God’s creation, even if it is merely the passing of time. And because we live on this earth, day unto day and night unto night, we can witness His glory and His handiwork continually. How wonderful to know that He has made a way for us to remember Him, even where we least expect it.

Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing Yourself to us through creation. Help us to never forget Your presence. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
