THE QUIET DAY

“Be still and know that I am God . . .” (Psalm 46:10, NIV)

Turn off the radio. I heard in that still, small voice.
What! That can’t be God, this is Christian radio I am listening to! I thought to myself. I’ll try again. God, I need Your guidance and direction in my life right now. What should I do?
Turn off the radio. The answer remained the same.
Perplexed, I walked over to my stereo and turned it off. I knew God was calling me to tune out the outside distractions in my life and tune into Him. I devoted this day to Him as a “Quiet Day”.
Since I am unable to fast with food, I saw turning off the radio as a form of fasting. Fasting can be removing any distraction as a way of devoting your time to God. So, the next time you consider a way of devoting time to God, consider removing everyday distractions, such as phone calls, radio, or television from your day in a way of focusing on God.

Ending Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, help me to tune out the outside distractions of this world in order to seek Your presence in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
