“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11, NIV)
The time had finally come. Something I had waited for months for – football season. I was excited as I brought out my team hat and jacket, ready for the preseason games. I couldn’t believe it was finally here.
As the game started, the Colts ran to score a touchdown. I jumped up and down and cheered for my team. Just then, the Lord spoke to me in that still, small voice, I wish you would be that excited about me. I stopped suddenly as I was convicted about how lukewarm my walk with God had become recently. I reflected back to the time when I was a new Christian and everything about my relationship with God was on fire. As I looked back to that time, I made a new commitment to strengthening my relationship with God.
How often is it that we become so excited about things in this world while our relationship with God becomes lukewarm? God is there, ready for us to reach out to him in a close relationship once again. He wants our undivided attention and commitment to him.
Heavenly Father, help me to always keep you first place in my life and on fire in my relationship with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
