Cell phones & Ketchup in Heaven

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.” - Psalms 145:13 (NIV)

Anyone who knows my youngest daughter knows she is a ketchup connoisseur. It’s a staple of her diet and we keep a stash of her favorite condiment with us at all times, just in case a restaurant doesn’t serve it.

How much she loves it became evident during one of our hurried snack times. In typical fashion, I was busy gathering items for her soccer practice while she ate. As I finished filling her water bottle, she looked up at me with a ketchup grin and asked, “Mom, are there cell phones in heaven?” I paused a moment, because she tends to ask loaded questions, and then responded, “I don’t know. Why do you ask?”

“Well, I need you to call me when you get there and tell me if God has my favorite ketchup. If He doesn’t, I’ll have to bring some with me.”

With a quick smile and silent chuckle, I assured her that God loves her and will tend to all her needs, even if that meant having her favorite ketchup in heaven.

Let us trust in You, Lord, for only You know our current and future needs.
