DRUGSTORE COWBOYS AND CHRISTIANS

Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. Mark 11:13-14 (NIV)

Every rancher knows a few Drugstore Cowboys. They want to be cowboys, but never get around to doing the hard work that is required. Instead, they sit in the local drugstore looking fancy in their hats, shiny boots and belt buckles that are larger than their wallets. They try to impress the ladies, but if a rancher needs help cleaning out the stalls, they disappear quicker than Houdini. The drugstore cowboys talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk. The fig tree had leaves, but no fruit.
I can go to church three times a week, sing the songs, bow my head in prayer, and give the appearance of a strong Christian. However, if there isn’t any fruit in my life to offer to the ones in need. What’ve I accomplished?
What the world needs, is to see Christ in action through us. Yes, God is love, but he also so loved. We should do the same.

Lord, I pray that you will help me to reach out to those around me in need. Help me not only talk like a Christian, but walk like a Christian as well.
