God Opens His Hands with Good Things…

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” - Psalm 84:11 KJV

Even though Psalm 84 is one of my favorite psalms, I have to admit verse 11 once caused me to stumble. The problem didn’t come from the first two promises. I’d seen the Lord as a sun and shield numerous times; grace and glory had been poured out on me in amounts much higher than deserved. The part about “no good thing” being withheld from those who walk uprightly caused the trouble, because what immediately came to mind was another verse: “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.” (Proverbs 18:22).
I was single. Hopelessly single. Dates came few and far between. To remain single didn’t sound appealing, but I didn’t see how God could reward me with something as good as a wife regardless of how uprightly I walked.
What I missed was the solution found in the next verse: “O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” I began to believe that God not only could introduce me to a wonderful Ch ristian woman who would become my wife, but that He would.
Within four months, I had met such a woman. Within two months, she became my girlfriend. A little over a month later, she was my fiancé. Six months later, she became my wife. If you’re willing to believe what God has said, and place your faith in Him to meet your needs, He will always take care of you. He certainly did for me.

“Father, thank You for the promises in Your Word. You are faithful and true, and Your ways of rewarding Your children are always better than anything we could hope for. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
