The Job for Me

Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy one of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. Isaiah 48:17 (KJV

Recently, I was scheduled for an interview for a new position at my place of employment. From my perspective and that of many of my colleagues, the job was sitting in the palm of my hand. In the days leading up to the interview, I prayed, “Lord, you know that it is my desire to have this job. I recognize though that you have a plan for me. Maybe this job isn’t part of it. Allow your will to be done in my life.” While this was the prayer of my heart and spirit, my mind thought the new position was mine. When the phone call came that the job was given to someone else, I was devastated. I was filled with disappointment until I opened my Bible and God whispered his peace and hope to me through his words in Isaiah.

A couple weeks later, I ran into a friend who was quite surprised to find out I was not hired for the job. His words to me were, “Our whole lives here on earth, we may never know why you were not given this job. One thing I do know. It is sure going to be fun to see how God is going to use you!” HIs encouragment filled me with excitement for the future. God used one of his children to renew hope in me.

Dear Lord, Instill in me your Spirit to guide me in your way. Draw me to your word to find your truths. Thank you for your promises of peace and hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
