“Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.” – Psalm 37:3-6 (NKJV)
“Your daughter can only sing in the choir. She cannot be a soloist,” said my voice teacher. I stood inside the small music room with the black piano to my right. She sat on the piano bench, talking to my mother.
When I got home, I locked myself inside my room, laid on my bed, and cried. “Lord, she said I cannot sing solos, but nothing’s impossible with you,” I prayed. “It is my desire to sing for You, so please teach me how to sing.”
I was 12 years old at that time. Four years later, I entered the College of Music of the University of the Philippines, as a voice major. There I obtained my diploma in Creative and Performing Musical Arts and a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. I have been singing solos ever since.
It says in Psalm 37:3-6 that when we trust in the Lord, commit our ways to Him, and delight ourselves in Him, He will give us the desires of our hearts. Whenever I apply these verses in my life, I always experience His answers to my prayers, and I’m able to see His miracles.
Dear Lord, we surrender our desires to You and commit all our ways to You. Please help us to trust in You completely.
