You did not choose me, but I chose you to go and bear fruit -- fruit that will last. John 15:16 NIV
I reached into the vegetable bin for potatoes to a cook for dinner. Not a little irritated with the extra work, I began to pick off the sprouts that were in the way for peeling.
"Why" I wondered to myself, "so many sprouts all of a sudden?" Then I realized that spring was just around the corner and the potato knew that.
My husband and I are avid gardeners. The seed potatoes we buy each spring have beautiful sprouts ready to grow into lush plants. These servants of their Creator are ready to do what they were created to do.
How can they possibly know? And how can they know when to prepare to do it? Do vegetables have a direct line to God? Perhaps that will be a question I will have answered in heaven. But I do know that I am humbled by the potato I am peeling. It is probably communicating better with it's Creator than I am. How often have I failed to seek God's direction before taking on a task, trusting my own instincts. Something the lowly potato would never consider.
Creator God, help me to better know your will for my life. Help me to allow your guidance in all that I do. Amen.
